ROPA Lighting was founded in 1987 with the vision of designing
and manufacturing extra low voltage light fittings. All fittings
have been designed around the dichroic lamp, which, in those early
days was a relatively new and compact source of incandescent light.
The first lighting systems developed were using live cables which
had to be tensioned between opposite walls. These cables not only
served the purpose of carrying the power to the lamp fittings but
also were the carrier of the fitting themselves. In a further step
surface mounted fittings evolved from these trapeze light fittings.
ROPA lighting prides itself in working closely with other lighting
designers, architects and engineers and in realizing working lighting
systems in a short period of time. In fact, the company’s
strength is in developing and manufacturing client’s specific
lighting systems in a short time.
The business has also explored the use of fibre optic lighting
but more in the areas of safe inspection lights for tanks of flammable
liquids and in animal laboratories.
In more recent years, with the emergence of high lumen output light
emitting diodes (LEDs) we have developed a range of very small fittings
suitable for indoor as well as outdoor use, We believe that the
area of LED lighting is extremely promising and exciting to warrant
the dedication of a sizable portion of our resources.
